The Fields are drying
Much left to plant
I could be sighing
But you know I can’t
Hello!
The soil is warming up so you can plant all crops – that is if the soil is not too wet. Remember, the soil should crumble in your hand. I do understand if you need to mud it in. It’s hard to hoe with mud clumps.
If your plant is root bound, you need to pull some of the roots to wake them up. If they are in there tight they will not reach in the ground. They keep going round and round.
My friend Duane Otto, who is the landscape gardener at the Arb, plants to the 4th of July and sometimes longer. So we can plant all of June.
When the ground is warm, things grow better and go forwards. When the soil is cold the plants go backwards and they take longer to grow.
I have a “believe it or not” story. On Friday morning one of my elves was going into the Starting Greenhouse and a beautiful black and white Chicken greeted her, a hen. Someone dumped it off and knew we could take care of it. It stayed in there all day. When it was time to close up sheds for the night, she had laid an egg in the doorway. It was warm when I picked it up. I had it for supper, excellent! I caught her and put her in the hen house overnight. I know people dump dogs and cats, not never a chicken. Times are a changing. Her name is Herrietta. I had another pet Chicken a long time ago with that name.
