Will the cold weather ever leave?
The sun is shinning bright
So what do I have up my sleeve?
I think it will be right
Hello!
I can’t believe Easter is just around the corner.
All seeds are ordered, but a lot have not arrived. There is a shortage. Onion Plants, Onion Sets, and Seed Potatoes are ordered. I should have these by April 1. Some people love to plant seed potatoes by Good Friday. It’s so early this year I don’t know if that’s in the cards.
Baby Chicks, 15 of them, are ordered for the last week in May. I wanted only 11 but the freight was too high. With 15, it’s free shipping. I get 14 hens and 1 rooster. I love to hear it crow. I give them all away in September, too cold to keep them over winter. There is a shortage of them also this year.
I don’t have my virus shot yet. Never got a notice. Can’t decide about that.
Here is my great brainstorm for 2022, yes, that’s correct. I’m working on an event for July 9, 2022 at the Historic Farm about a mile from me. It’s the Andrew Peterson Farm. He was the first person to discover this jewel in Carver County. The area was called Scandia (he was Swedish) in the late 1800s.
It’s on the record of Historical Places. A lady from Carver County wrote a wonderful book, The Andrew Peterson Story. It’s in the Library of Congress. He also wrote a diary of his travel and life here. It was translated to English a few years ago. Read more on the Carver County Historical Society website.
We can’t get it ready for this year. The virus got in the way. We hope to get the King & Queen of Sweden here. They were here to Minnesota a few years ago, came to the farm, but there was nothing going on.
I would like to have Mollie B Polka Band, Lt Governor Peggy Flanagan, Antique Tractors, Model A Cars, Llama, Team of Horses and Wagon for Rides, Baby Animals, Food and more!
This has been a dream of mine for a long time. I was asked 2 years ago to do Tourism for Carver County but the seed never grew. It’s growing now.
There is an ArtStock Art, Wine & Music Festival on Parley Lake Road that weekend. That should bring a lot of traffic also. It’s at Parley Lake Winery, wine, artists, artwork for sale.
This is a jewel of the County. I hope to have David Bedford who hybridized the Honeycrisp Apple. He works at the MN Landscape Arboretum. Also did First Kiss Apple, that was released a couple years ago. I had some in 2020 for sale. They just flew out the door.
Did you get the Instagram of the Farm last week? It was done by a drone. We will do this all season to show the progress on the Farm. When the fields are ready to plant, the Rhubarb coming up, and the Onion Plants planted. A lot of people have no idea how their food was produced. So fun to be a Farmer.
I have fabulous elves to do this for me. They are all a gift. I’m glad I have this to do in the winter. Keeps my brain busy. Hang in there, we will get spring.
I’ll write again,
Donna
