The Fall Colors are Starting
Orange Pumpkins are Happy

Hello!

There is light at the end of the tunnel. Every year is different and always something new to learn.

The fields are too wet to put to bed. Need sun and wind. There is some produce in the fields but not in search of excellent to harvest.

The Garlic can be planted as soon as the field is dry. The Garlic needs a winter cover on – hay, straw or corn stalks. In late March or early April, you need to remove the cover, otherwise the stems of the Garlic will be bent over. They start to grow early in the spring, they are in a hurry to grow.

After the freeze you can pull all the flowers (annuals). Canna roots need to be dug and dried in your garage. Then when dry, wrap in newspaper and store in a cool place.

Your potatoes and onions should have been dug in September. Store in a cool place.

The perennial plants can die down. You can cut them back. Just wait until spring to clean that up, I do.

I will close the store Saturday, October 26th. If we have snow or too much rain and cold, I will close before that. Next year will be better.

My 15 young Chickens found a new home. They went to Hutchinson on Saturday. I miss the Rooster crowing but I’ll get new ones next spring. These Chickens were pretty and fun to watch.

I still have my Hennrette. What a star of the Farm. She lays an egg almost every day, nice.

The highway got another of my cats, sad. I have 3 new Kittens coming the end of October. I’ll try again. I lost my cat Boots about 5 or 6 years old. I had 2 orange ones, Spice and Morris. They were almost 2 years old. I don’t know what they were doing on the highway. I really never had so many cats leave me like that. I’ll name the new ones Inkin, Blinkin & Nod – fun!

The display in front of my Barn is fabulous. It’s always fun to re-invent the Farm. I have Specialty Pumpkins and large Jack-O-Lantern ones. If you watch Channel 11 News, they have a great display of Specialty Pumpkins, Gourds, and Colored Squash. I’m so excited to be on the same page. I have a few Mums, Broom Corn Shocks left, Color Corn, Mini Pumpkins, and Fancy Pie Pumpkins. Fun to decorate for the fall season.

Thanks for all who enjoyed my food. It’s a pleasure to serve you. I’ll be 88 years old December 23. Remember age is just a number. Everyone needs to eat right. I’m finishing my 22nd year At TheĀ Farm. Don’t know where the time went. I’m very blessed to be healthy and have the greatest elves in the world. Never give up your dream.
