The Summer is Glowing
It’s a great time of the year
The fields don’t need hoeing
Now it’s time for a Big Cheer
Hello!
The harvest is doing well. Pickling Cukes have a problem. The rain has been very hard on the blossoms. They are not setting pickles. The deer are also a problem. Never had that so bad. My grower works so hard to cover plants, but they pull some of the netting off and eat.
Eggplant and Fennel are a great seller. I did not grow Kale, no one is interested any more. Sometimes I feel like a squirrel in a cage figuring out what people want, but I love what I do.
I now have Canning Tomatoes, Romas and Heirlooms. The Watermelon and Muskmelon are now local grown.
I’ve has some wonderful gatherings at my Coffee Shack. I now only do groups. I’m not open every week. People need to reserve The Shack. The Thursday, Friday and Saturday did not work. I have ladies every Tuesday for a gathering until the end of this month.
Every year is interesting. People now look up where to buy local, home grown, good produce on their phone. It’s a great selling tool. My phone is not a smart phone, it’s a dumb phone (old flip). I’ve had a lot of new people because of this tool.
The County Fair is over and what a week. It’s the slowest week of the year, but not this year. It was one of the best. Sometimes it’s hard to guess, keeps my brain alert! Fun to do.
I got a huge pat on my back recently. The CEO of The Wedge stopped at My Farm after the fair. I didn’t know who he was. He looked at my produce and said it was beautiful. Then, he told me where he worked. He made my day! He has a good eye for quality of produce. I love what I do and to have good produce for everyone to enjoy. Yes, he bought produce from me!
