The Grass will soon be Green
Planting we’ll soon beginning
Hooray, out comes my Green Machine

Hello! Happy Spring! It’s interesting the challenges in growing. Had a mouse eat the tips of Pepper plants just coming up. I had this happen about 5 years ago. I have 5 cats, I really didn’t think there was anything like that around, surprise!

A lot of plants are coming along excellent in the green house. So lovely. The Rhubarb is still sleeping. I drove out there recently, but nothing up yet.

The Seed Potatoes are here. 7 varieties, Onion sets also. The Onion Plants will be here after April 15. The Vegetable Seeds are here but not in the seed jars. The end of this week I hope.

We will not grow any Kale, it’s a waste of field room. No one buys it anymore. Eggplant is now the New Vegetable of choice. They are getting a lot of ink in publications. 2018 was an excellent year of sale of Eggplant. I grow a non-bitter Eggplant.

Remember, don’t get in your Garden too soon. The soil needs to crumble, not be in a ball. You will pay the fiddler all year if you don’t wait. When ready, you can do cold crops. Potatoes, Onions, Radish, Lettuce, and Peas.

Do not plant Garlic in the spring unless its soft neck. Garlic is planted in the late fall. I’ll have Shallot Plants this year. They are easy to grow like an Onion. They keep really well all winter.

Sister Saturday Waconia

I’m working on my Veterans Gala for May 11 – Sister Saturday Day. It’s coming along great. I love events.

Also working on a Garden Tour July 25. I’ll do only one tour this year, then lunch in the Loft. I don’t have all my ducks in a row yet for cost.

Soon on my website I’ll have all the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) information. You can sign up soon. I’ve had this farmer with CSAs for a number of years. It’s a Tuesday pickup. There is plenty of time to sign up. They start the middle of June. His farming practice is called sustainable. He is an excellent grower.

I forgot to tell you, if you planted Garlic last fall (2018), be sure to check if they are coming up, then remove the mulch. The stems will be crooked otherwise. Garlic wakes up early.

I’m out of Garden Advice, I’ll write again.
